Cuban Missile Crisis (16 oct. 1962 – 28 oct. 1962)
Description:
The Cuban Missile Crisis was the climax of the Cold War. That week was the closest that the world has ever gotten to nuclear destruction, and since then, countries have been careful to never go that far again. The crisis, in which the Soviet Union threatened to bomb the US, played an important part in deescalating the Cold War. The affect of the Cuban Missile Crisis in America was that Americans became very afraid of the power of atomic weapons. It was very similar to Nixon's later visit to China, as they were both definitive events that took important steps towards ending the war.
