Beowulf told in Anglo-Saxon society (1 janv. 700 – 1 janv. 975)
Description:
From what was likely its first telling just before or during the Christianization of England until its transcription, Beowulf was told in Anglo-Saxon society with erratic consistency. While England was still mostly Pagan, the tale would have been very popular, told by scops [sh-OH-pes], the Anglo-Saxon bards. However, its popularity would wane in later years, as it was told less in favor of Christian stories and legends.
