Berlin Blockade and the Berlin Airlift (24 juin 1948 – 24 mai 1949)
Description:
-The Berlin Blockade was an attempt in 1948 by the Soviet Union to limit the ability of the United States, Great Britain and France to travel to their sectors of Berlin, which lay within Russian-occupied East Germany.
-The Soviet Union was in shock by the US giving aid to European countries and the western allies that introduced a single currency to the zones that they occupied in Germany and Berlin.
-The Soviets blocked all railroads and canals to western zones of Berlin and 2.5 million people could not get food. The Western powers then had an airlift bring food and supplies to west berlin. This has changed since it was the first major conflict of the Cold War.
