Battle of Mobile Bay (5 août 1864 – 23 août 1864)

Description:

August 5- 23, 1864: A Union fleet of 18 ships, led by Admiral David G. Farragut, entered Mobile Bay on August 5. These 18 ships went under heavy fire from both Fort Gaines and Fort Morgan. On this day, the Union successfully passed both forts, only losing one ship, the ironclad USS Tecumseh. On August 8, Fort Gaines had surrender to the Union. Not too long after, on August 23, Fort Morgan, which was the larger fort out of the two, had also surrendered. This impacted the Civil War greatly because losing these two forts was a major blow to the Confederacy.
