Cause:

1. primary treaty by the Paris Peace Conference that ended WW1

Effect:

1. reactions to the treaty were negative
2. Many felt the Treaty was unfair for Germany
3. Felt that Britain and France were making themselves rich at Germany's expense
4. Senate rejected Treaty of Versailles since it violated US sovereignty and could lead to an alliance system that will cause another war
