Description:
Cause:
1. Stephen Douglas wanted to ensure a northern transcontinental railroad route
2. organize territory Nebraska in order to bring area under civil control
Effect:
1. repealed Missouri Compromise
2. created two new territories
3. allowed popular sovereignty
4. produced violent uprising known as Bleeding Kansas
- pro-slavery and antislavery activists flooded into territories to sway the vote.
