Description:
Cause:1. Refusal of many Texans to accept the governmental changes mandated
2. Placed almost total power in the hands of the Mexican national government and Santa Anna
Effect:
1. Mexican leader forced to sign treaty
- recognized independence for Texas
- granted the republic all territory north of the Rio Grande
2. Mexican legislature rejected treaty
- insisted Texas was part of Mexico
