David Barrow (1753-1819) (1 janv. 1753 – 1 janv. 1819)

Description:

Barrow came to saving faith in his late teens, began preaching at eighteen years of age, and was ordained in 1774. He spent the first half of his life in Virginia and the second half in Kentucky, presumably because prosperity without slaves in Virginia was difficult (as a result of conviction, he released his slaves in 1784). After seeing the evils of slavery, he spent the rest of his life seeking its abolition. He preached emancipation from the pulpit, published books and tracts against slavery, formed and led an anti-slavery association, and called upon Congress to give land to freed slaves. His resolve against slavery and its impact on the SBC are no insignificant positives.
