Sherman's March (15 nov 1864 – 21 déc. 1864)

Description:

November 15 - December 21, 1864: 60,000 Union soldiers, led by General William T. Sherman, marched 285 miles from Atlanta to Savannah, Georgia. The reason the Union did this march is so they could scare the citizens of Georgia into abandoning the Confederacy. Sherman's March was an awakening to Georgia's citizens because even though the Union did not disturb any of their towns during the march, if any of Georgia's civil population fought back, the Union would burn their houses and barns and steal their food and livestock. This showed all the citizens of Georgia that maybe they really shouldn't be in the Confederacy and they should be in the Union.
