Also known as the Third Dynasty of Ur, is generally considered to be the first empire in Mesopotamia. The city state of Ur, secures a large part of the fertility crescent and beyond. The territory at its height stretched from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean sea. The period of history is characterised by warring city states which sit upon either the Tigris or Euphrates rivers.
