The beginning of elements and compounds. (1 janv. 500 – 1 janv. 1600)

Description:

From 500 to 1600 many alchemists believed that metals (like gold) grew like plants. For a long period of time, they tried various experiments to try and make gold from other cheap metals and substances like lead. They also labelled a lot of substances with chemical symbols that we now recognize as elements and compounds. They were never successful in any of their experiments but they did invent many tools that we still use today such as beakers and stirring rods. Although, throughout all of this time they still accepted the four-element model.
