The Seven Boyars called the Polish prince Vladislav to the Russian throne, but he refused to accept Orthodoxy, so he was not recognized as a Tsar.

The Polish-Lithuanian interventionists established control over Moscow, but seven boyars, led by Fedor Mstislavsky, continued to lead the country.

After the liberation of Moscow from the interventionists, before the arrival of Mikhail Romanov, he formally accepted incoming state documents, as he was the oldest member of the Duma.
