Nullification Crisis (19 mai 1828 – 15 mars 1833)

Description:

A high protective tariff(or tax) was signed into law by the U.S government. South Carolinians - specifically John C. Calhoun strongly disagree with the high tariffs and felt that they targeted the South unfairly. South Carolina nullified the federal law, calling it unconstitutional until a "force bill" was threatened which would bring the national army into the state to make sure the law was followed. A compromise took place. South Carolina would pay the tax if the U.S government lowered the tax. The U.S Government would not send troops if South Carolina Agreed to pay this lower tax.
