Description:
Originally a site of worship of the deity Shalim (associated with twilight and peace), gradually became a center of Israelite worship and eventually of the worship of YHWH, and was attributed to the legendary figure King Shlomo (Solomon).
Another important nearby center of worship was the Valley of Hinnom, which eventually housed the royal graves of the Kingdom of Judah.
