Description:
This was a voter registration drive that aimed to increase the number of registered black voters in Mississippi. The movement was organized by CORE, SNCC, and run by COFO. The volunteers were met with violent resistance from the KKK and law enforcement. The news coverage of the false arrests, beatings, and murder increased awareness of voter discrimination which in turn helped pass the Civil RIghts Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.Ajouté au bande de temps:
