Description:

At this time, the Clergy members sought to revive religious sentiment among American people. The ideas pertaining to this awakening were that salvation is in hands of the individual, righteous living, self control, strong morals, as well as the societal reformation.
it began in NY- sparked intense evangelicalism in south and west- people wanted to save humanity(drinking and poverty were seen as social evils).
