July 1-3, 1863: The Battle of Gettysburg is known as the most important battle in the Civil War. On July 1, the Confederates and the Union clashed. It was the bloodiest day of this battle. On July 2, the fighting got more intense. General Robert E. Lee attacked the Union, which was later known as “Pickett’s Charge,” managing to break through the Union lines, but eventually failing.
