Oro Township (27 janv. 1819 – 19 sept. 1831)

Description:

Oro Township, in present-day Simcoe County, Ontario, was established
in 1819. The settlement was created for the veterans from the War of
1812, including the Coloured Corps. For the most part, land grants were given to soldier. However, Black soldiers were allowed to settle together in one area. Oro Township was the
only government-sponsored Black settlement in Upper Canada at the time.
