First Sino-Japanese War (28 déc. 1893 – 25 févr. 1895)
Description:
☆ A conflict between Japan and China that marked the emergence of Japan as a major world power & demonstrated the weakness of the Chinese empire.
The war grew out of conflict between both countries for supremacy in Korea.
The Japanese did a better job of modernizing = were better equipped and prepared
External Conflict: China’s defeat encouraged the Western powers to make further demands of the Chinese government.
Internal Conflict: The war triggered a reform movement that attempted to renovate the government & also resulted in the beginnings of revolutionary activity against the Qing dynasty rulers of China.
