Berlin Blockade (17 h 36 min, 24 juin 1948 ans – 17 h 56 min, 12 mai 1949 ans)
Description:
In reaction to the Deutsche Mark in the Western controlled sides of Germany being introduced.
All road and rail links to Berlin from the West were blocked by the Soviet Union to stop support to their controlled parts of Berlin. They British believed that a US, French and UK withdrawal from Berlin would threaten the future of Germany. In response the Berlin airlift began.
Averaging 150,000 tonnes of supplies a month and an average of 17,000 flights per month were made.
12th May 1949 the Berlin Blockade ends and the German Federal Republic is formed (FDR).
