Description:
- The Allies commanded by U.S. Major General John P. Lucas
- 40 miles from Rome near Anzio and Nettuno on Italy's West coast
- The battle was one of the bloodiest and consisted of a four-month stalemate. The Allies needed to draw German troops away from manning the Gustav Line in order to take over Rome
- The battle concluded when the Allies led an offense that broke them out of the stalemate. The battle created 25,000 Allied and 30,000 Axis casualties.
