Thomas Weelkes (1 janv. 1576 – 1 janv. 1623)

Description:

He was an English composer and organist. Weelkes became organist for Winchester college in 1598, and in 1602 he was hired for multiple positions at Chichester Cathedral. He struggled maintaining good standings with any of his employers as he was a habitual drunkard, periodically absent from his duties, and frequently swore. Many of his works had a pervasively dark mood, contrasting other composers of the time. While he is currently well known for his madrigals, he stopped publishing them in 1608, instead focusing on church music.
