Fillipo Brunelleschi: Dome (8 janv. 1418 – 10 août 1436)
Description:
Brunelleschi was an Italian architect and engineer. One of his major accomplishments would be designing and building the dome of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence (1418-1436). At the time, a dome of that size defied the laws of gravity and the idea seemed impossible. Brunelleschi found a way and brought a new type of knowledge to the table. Instead of the traditional armature, or wooden skeletal framework, he placed the brickwork in herringbone patterns between a framework of stone beams.
