The Iron Brigade (12 avr. 1861 – 13 mai 1865)

Description:

This unit was the most famous Wisconsin unit in the Civil War. This gained it reputation for the tenacity and courage during battle. This was first organized in 1861. This name came from when George McClellan saw a brigade moving under a killing fire. He thought that this brigade was Gibbon’s Wisconsin brigade. “They must be made of iron,” he said. That name stuck. The Iron Brigade suffered oddly high misfortune in the battles of Antietam, Gainesville, and Gettysburg.
