Giovanni Boccaccio (16 juin 1313 – 21 déc. 1375)
Description:
As a mediator between different cultures—classical and medieval; Italian, French, and Latin; and Christian and pagan— he stands as an important figure in the development of European humanism. With Petrarch he laid the foundations for the humanism of the Renaissance and raised vernacular literature to the level and status of the classics of antiquity.
