The Emu War (2 nov 1932 – 8 nov 1932)

Description:

This was when we, Australians, went up against the emus and lost. During the great depression, emus were destroying a lot of farmland.
You'd think they'd go to Frederick Stewart, the Minister of Agriculture. No. They went to the military. The minister of Defence himself, George Pearce.
We, quite literally, went to war with the emus. He actually let them arm themselves with machine guns and go after the emus. But first, of course, made them sign a contract saying that if this went bad, George would not be held accountable for the Emu War.
In the end, only 986 emus out of the estimated 20, 000 were killed, with roughly 10 bullets used per emu.
