Known in his time for writing an essay concerning human understanding which depicted the personality as an individualized organism born a separate blank receptacle for experience but growing in such complexity and richness of thought from youth to age as to be barely recognizable as the same person.Agreed with Winthrop but for different reasons outlined by Richard Overton.
