Description:
Deng Xiaoping had become the leader of the moderates.
Directed a complete reform of the economy.
Deng’s plan was called the Four Modernizations.
The goal was to improve agriculture, industry, science, technology, and national defense.
This led to a more open society in which there were cultural and scientific exchanges with Western countries.
China also began importing technology from the West.
This new direction led to major economic gains.
