Description:
The Jewish tribes united into a monarchy under the rule of a king. The first kings were appointed by the prophet Samuel. According to the biblical Book of Samuel, after King Saul lost divine favour, Samuel chose King David as the next ruler. King David is an important figure in the Jewish religion, and is considered the ancestor of the Messiah. King David traditionally wrote books of the Tanakh including Tehillim (Psalms) and Mishlei (Proverbs). King David's son King Solomon built the First Temple and traditionally wrote Shir Hashirim (the Song of Songs) in the Tanakh.
