Description:
Significance: The battle of Verdun was the longest and one of the bloodiest single battles in WWI. After the battle, the French army had about 400,000 casualties and the German army had about 350,000 casualties that included 300,000 of the 750,000 soldiers being killed. The battle ended with a French victory and allowed the Allies to gain some momentum in the war. The impact that the battle had on the French army led to Britain starting the Battle of Somme to take some pressure off the French army.
