Description:

He was able to receive a fine classical education from the Jesuits and soon denounced their religious doctrine. He became the idol of french intellectuals. He wrote against the crown and was imprisoned for that. He soon moved to England in a promise to leave the country, where he was able to gain his freedom again. His ideas took much after the ideals of Locke and newton. Voltaire was able to write poetry , drama, history, essays, letters and scientific treatises He was celebrated as a national hero and lionized internationally, and his popularity reveals the widespread acceptance of enlightenment thought throughout the west by the late 18th century.
