The Punitive Era (3 janv. 1935 – 1 janv. 1945)
Description:
After the failures of the Reformatory and Industrial Eras, prisons returned to institutional security. The philosophy of this era was retribution. This started the building of maximum security prisons in the US. There was a lack of educational, treatment, and training programs for offenders, The Alcatraz Island is a lasting example of the Punitive Era.
