Rousseau (28 juin 1712 – 2 juill. 1779)

Description:

Jean-Jacques Rousseau was a radical philosophe. He was orphaned and paid for his education by being the paid lover of a wealthy old woman. He became a novelist.

Rousseau wanted direct democracy, where the general will of the people is represented, with no parliamentary checks on the power of the people.

Like Hobbes, Rousseau believed that man had declined from the freedom of their natural state. Like Locke, he believed in natural rights.

He was also a horrible sexist.
