Montesquieu (18 janv. 1689 – 10 févr. 1755)

Description:

Montesquieu was a moderate French philosophe. Like Voltaire, he was forced to flee to England and became completely enamored with the English government, particularly its checks and balances and separation of power. He was biased, though, because he was an anglophile.

Montesquieu is considered the "first sociologist," saying that trends, not "great men" make up history.

He thought that nobles should be public intellectuals.
