On this date, South Vietnamese army officers seized control of the government. While that happened, Ngo Dhin Diem (the South Vietnamese leader that the Us chose) was killed by his own military staff. The South Vietnamese didn't like Diem anyways, and the Vietcong were trying to overthrow him.
