Radicalisation (1 févr. 1936 – 1 juill. 1936)

Description:

Between February and July 1936 there were nearly 300 political killings in Spain. In one case, in May 1936, a Falangist commando squad raided a Socialist Party meeting hall near the town of Palencia and dragged the local Socialist leader and several members of the party down the street before killing them all. Meanwhile peasants in the south of Spain, frustrated by the slow pace of agrarian reform, began to occupy the land. Faced with this situation, the military began to plot with the civilian politicians of the right to 'restore order'. The government failed to remove the central conspirators, such as Yague and Mola, from their powerful army commands.
