He lived until the age of 69, although he was just a few months short of 70 at his death on January 8, 1324.He is buried in the Church of San Lorenzo in Venice.
The Marco Polo sheep was named after him.
Polo grew to bear the name "Il Milione" (meaning The Million) because he was considered to be a great storyteller of his time.
When Marco Polo traveled to China with his father and uncle he sailed overseas.
When they returned they brought back ivory, jade, jewels, porcelain, and silk.
