Description:
With the republican revolution in the north, the Mezzogiorno became the only source of food for Italy at war. The requisitions of food to feed the cities, the arrival of British troops on Italian soil, the harsh winter of 1918 provoked peasant revolts and the formation of workers 'and peasants' councils (Consiglio dei lavoratori e dei contadini).
