Description:
The first modern Olympics had 14 countries participating and were held in Athens, Greece. The first modern Olympics there were 241 males participating, the first Olympic champion was James Connolly from America who won triple jump on the opening day of the games. America brought home the most first places with eleven with Greece close behind with 10.
Significance-
This event allowed more opportunities for athletes as well as providing an interesting event for people from many different countries to watch.
