The American Civil War was fought between the northern and southern states between 1861 and 1865. The two sides that fought were the United States of America and the Confederate States of America. The civil war had a greater effect on the country than any other event that had ever occurred in America before. More than 620,000 soldiers lost their lives, 365,000 union soldiers died with the one motive of ending slavery in America.
After a 4 year long civil war, slavery was ended with the highest death toll recorded in America, exceeding the number of deaths in both world wars.
