Description:

---Before Teddy Roosevelt was ever president the United States had many environmental problems. This was because we thought our natural resources were unlimited, which was not true.
---Teddy Roosevelt considered the environment to be one of the top priorities for the nation. He even held seven messages to Congress dealing with the environmental problems in the United States.
---Roosevelt encouraged the Newlands Reclamation Act of 1902. It promoted the federal construction of dams that would help irrigate crops on small farms. It also placed 230 million acres of land under federal protection.
---Roosevelt also established the United States Forest Service and signed for the creation of 5 National Parks.
---The first 51 Bird Reserves, 4 Game Preserves, and 150 National Forests were also established by Roosevelt.
