English Civil War (22 août 1642 – 3 sept. 1651)
Description:
Due to the extravagance of King James I and Charles I, tension had grown between parliament and monarchy, and this boiled over when Charles I decided to become total ruler for eleven years. Eventually, civil war broke out between Royalists, or Cavaliers, and Parliamentarians, or Roundheads. This resulted in the execution of Charles I, the exile of Charles II, and the establishment of the short-lived republic known as the Commonwealth of England.
