Description:
Political - The establishment of the Umayyad dynasty temporarily held off the problem of succession after the assassination of Ali. They had a tightly centralized rule and favored the Arabs, creating an administrative problem. The capital was established at Damascus, and the central location enabled the Umayyads to maintain communication with the expanding Islamic empire.
