Spanish Conquest of Peru (1 janv. 1532 – 1 janv. 1540)
Description:
- In 1530: Francisco Pizarro and his 180 soldiers that became 600 due to reinforcement troops
- By 1533: they had taken the Inca capital at Cuzco
- Under the pretext of holding a conference, they called the Inca ruling elites together, seized them, and killed most of them
- After, they looted the gold and silver throughout Inca Society
- Many Inca subjects despised their overlords, so they helped or didn't resist the Spanish forces
- 1520s: smallpox also spread to the Inca empire, taking a heavy toll among Andean population
- By 1540: the Spanish had control of the land
