- fight between King and Parliament about King's ability to institute new taxes without parliament approval
Religiously
- fight between Anglican King and a vocal group of reform-minded Calvinists in Parliament
Conflict
- 1641: King Charles I and Parliament both raised armies, and then then the King was captured, and in 1649, executed for tyranny
Resolution
- government unrest still continued until 1668 when Mary, and Dutch husband William of Orange assumed the throne on the contingency that kings would rule in cooperating with Parliament, giving nobles, and merchants representation in government affairs, and an unprecedented ability to replace government if perceived to not act in the best interests of its people
