Nixon made headlines and history as the first American president to visit China while serving in office. This was the first diplomatic meeting the countries have engaged in since 1949. Nixon met with Mao and Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai during his trip, discussing many things, including trade and a possible U.S. troop withdrawal from Taiwan.
