BLACK POWER (1 janv. 1965 – 1 janv. 1985)
Description:
The term first came about during the Meredith March. Malcolm X a big influence on the Black Power movement. Could not achieve the mass support that King had done.
Encouraged great consciousness of black identity and awareness of grievances. Their real threat acted as a prod to the white establishment to make concessions that a more peaceful confrontational movement wouldn't have done.
Achieved cultural change and highlighted the northern problems more which King largely didn't. Antagonised the government and white liberals e.g. SNCC collapsed due to lack of support - didn't receive white sympathy.
