Beginning in the New Orleans area, Jazz music combined elements of the Blues and Ragtime music into unique songs. Jazz got much of its timing, and expressiveness from its African roots, but most jazz instruments came from European influences. The Jazz Age gave rise to talented black artists such as Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, and countless others who entertained the masses with their jazzy rhythms.
