The Enlightenment golden Age (1 janv. 1700 – 1 janv. 1750)

Description:

The Enlightenment was the growth of new ideas and thoughts on the basis of rational thought and knowledge. This developed most heavily in France where it would have the greatest impact. The Enlightenment had a huge impact on urban and upper class society in France at this time. The opening of Salons in Paris and the publication of works by Voltaire and others did much in the way of shifting public opinion or in this case societal opinion to the side of the Enlightenment. The Enlightenment brought about new ways of thought and advocated for ideas that seemed radical at the time such as a separation of powers and the right to rebel against a government. At the same time all this change faced the same censorship and backlash that has been the case throughout European history. Enlightened Philosophes such as Voltaire were arrested and had their works burned and banned.
