Bleeding Kansas (1 janv. 1854 – 1 janv. 1859)
Description:
The five years labeled “Bleeding Kansas” were what some described as the Civil War before the Civil War began. This was the time period in which U.S. citizens were trying to use popular sovereignty to determine whether Kansas and Nebraska would be free or slave states. Since there were so many members of each side present, tensions amplified and many violent acts followed, including the Pottawatomie Massacre. These five years were a small-scale example, and set the stage for the reality that would be the Civil War.
